Fans of Lydia Dare's acclaimed romance series, that adds a little paranormal to an historical setting, have been waiting for the love story between favorite sub-characters Alec and Sorcha, and now they have it. The two characters have cameod in various other books, mainly in the stories of Sorcha's coven sisters, and finally have a book of their own. A fitting conclusion to the coven's love stories and an intriguing beginning to the next three-part series the author(s) is working on.
Favorite Sub-Characters get a Paranormal Romance of Their Own
Vampire protagonist Alec MacQuarrie was the sympathetic sub-character in The Taming of the Wolf, who was left heartbroken when the love of his life married what he later found out was a gentleman werewolf. Poor Alec's heartbreak did not end their however, but continued in It Happened One Bite when he was painfully turned into a vampire thanks to the book's villain. He was the man Lydia Dare's readers desperately wanted a happy ending for, even more so after they saw the depressed character he was becoming in In the Heat of the Bite.
In the Heat of the Bite showed readers how truly broken Alec was and how hopeless he became when his vampiric mentor was healed of vampirism after finding the love of his life. Alec, of course, knew he could never be made human again because the love of his life was already married, or so he thought. Enter Sorcha Ferguson.
Sorcha was, and is, the jovial baby coven sister with a heart of gold and an innocence that is endearing and sweet. She is all that is pure, until she longs for a wild love the likes of which her coven sisters found. Naturally she desires a furry werewolf of her own, but is shocked when her feelings begin to turn to the one person she always has been attracted to, Alec. Figuring she would never have a chance with Alec because he was in love with her sister, Sorcha sees his feelings shift toward her and is determined to be the one to make his heartbeat once more.
Having watched these characters grow and transform throughout the previous books, Lydia Dare was faced with the challenge of pleasing all the readers who had so many high hopes for this inevitable love story. Amazingly enough, the author(s) successfully pulled it of and managed to leave readers wanting even more.
Never Been Bit Raises Expectations for Paranormal Romance Fans
Never Been Bit has it all as far as historical/paranormal romances are concerned. Highly recommended for fans of both genres, Never Been Bit is one of those books you can enjoy for some light reading, any time of day or night, when you simply need to get away and escape to another time or place. Entertaining and easy to read, the story continues on from Lydia Dare's previous works by proving the author(s) exceptional at creating enchanting pieces of escapist literature.
The plot of Never Been Bit was well written to tie up some loose ends and open that many more. The action, adventure, romance, suspense etc. were all adequately included and made all the more interesting by cameos by certain other sub-characters. Namely, the wolfish Hadley brothers who were in Sorcha's line of vision for possible wild love matches and in Alec's as the very reason he needed to stick close to her and save her from herself.
The humorous Hadley brothers cause tension, laughter, and strife everywhere they go and have been favorite sub-characters in Lydia Dare's previous books. The next three-part series by Lydia Dare will, in fact, be the stories of Archer, Grayson and Weston Hadley. These books will certainly be even more challenging for the author(s) because the Hadleys, too, have become fan-favorites for their unusual spunk and zest for life in an uncommonly stuffy regency era.
About the Author
Lydia Dare is not just one person, but the joint efforts of Tammy Falkner and Jodie Pearson. These two authors combine their unique talents for historical romance and paranormal romance respectively and produce a unique mash-up of two of romance fiction's hottest sub-genres. The authors are currently working on the Hadley's love stories and will hopefully release the first one in 2012.
