One rambunctious woman defies society, risks death at the hands of pirates, ignores the British Navy and meets her match in the man she wants most to kill.

Shana Galen's newest historical romance release takes place on turbulent seas during a time when pirates ruled the waters under letters of marque and countries were in and out of peace with one another. Right from the beginning this enchanting novel is jam-packed with action, adventure and the sort of passion that makes historical romance lovers swoon. Having all the qualities a good novel ought to have and fitting in beautifully alongside the authors previous works, The Rogue Pirate's Bride is a book that would be an entertaining addition to any bookshelf.

The Story of The Rogue Pirate's Bride

Raeven Russel is a British Admiral's daughter and having been on the ocean since she was four, is not only adept with a sword, but a good deck hand to boot. Skilled in every way a ship-hand should be, Raeven's biggest obstacle is her own devilish need for adventure. She is hard to keep and even harder to let go of. When her fiance is killed, Raeven is left with one passion in life, to kill the man responsible.

Bastien is the sort of Captain a crew respects and his deathly loyal to. Having escaped certain death as a child, Bastien was raised under the tutelage of a sea-faring Captain who taught him everything he knew and awarded him his own ship when he proved himself worthy. With his past life lying in secret Bastien too his left with only vengeance in his heart, to kill the man responsible for the death of his mentor.

Bastien and Raeven are bitter enemies, on Raeven's side at least, and see themselves as two very different people, though they are more alike than they think. Dealing with a blooming passion for one another, Bastien and Raeven find themselves thrust together on a high seas adventure, complete with scarred pirates, thievery, the threat of the British Navy looming in their sails and the testing of their loyalty and honor. Simply put, these two characters are perfect for each other and make the book as entertaining to read as it is.

My Thoughts on This Historical Romance Novel

The swashbuckling (yes I had to use the word when referring to Bastien) hero and innovative heroine are such an intriguing couple that their humorous repartee and captivating scenes are nothing short of a joy to read. Pirate ships and their occupants have such promise for action and adventure but throwing in Raeven was a genius choice on the author's part. Reading along as Raeven finds herself in predicaments time and again and watching her inventive ways of getting out of said situations was often hilarious at times.

Besides the characters themselves, Shana Galen has an eye for detail when it comes to setting and a unique talent for making a story come to life. Reading the story I could almost feel the ship swaying beneath my feet and feel the salt spray of the ocean against my face. The adrenaline-pumping novel left the story in my mind after I turned the last page, so much so that I was left wondering about the characters the next day.

In a 2010 interview for Suite 101 Shana Galen said "I want readers to have fun. I want them to escape..." and I can honestly say I did just that with The Rogue Pirate's Bride. Romance fiction is dubbed escapist literature for its ability to help readers escape, if only for the span of a novel, their mundane lives and live vicariously through the characters they read about. Not all authors can manage this, but Shana Galen certainly has the talent for providing readers with the opportunity.
